MyMind – Take Notes While Viewing Websites on Your iPad

September 24, 2014 by admin

Screen Shot 2014-09-24 at 12.36.47 PM MyMind is a good iPad app for creating and organizing text, audio, and visual notes. MyMind allows you to type notes or write them free-hand. To each note you can add pictures, audio files, and video files. Your audio files can be recorded within the app. All notes are organized into notebooks that your create and name.

None of the features mentioned above are terribly unique on their own as other apps do the same things. What makes MyMind different from many of those other notebook apps is that you can view websites while taking notes in the app. Tapping the “research” button on the right-hand side of any note will create a split screen in the app. The right-hand screen becomes a web browser. You can take notes about a website you’re viewing within MyMind. You can even record an audio note while using the web browser in MyMind. That could be a great feature for students to use when they’re conducting research. They can quickly dictate a note about how they might use information from a particular website in their research reports.

MyMind is currently priced at $4.99.

Moleskine Meets iPad in Penultimate from Evernote

February 4, 2013 by admin

Screen Shot 2013-02-04 at 6.58.06 PM Last week Evernote updated the Penultimate app and made it available for free. Of course, I had to install it when I found out that it is available for free.

Penultimate provides a place for you to hand-write notes on your iPad. The app allows you to create multiple notebooks with multiple pages in each. You can change the color and size of the pen strokes that are created when you write in your notebooks. Each page in your notebook can include pictures that you have stored on your iPad or pictures that you take through the Penultimate app. The app provides the option to change the look of the virtual paper on which you write. You can copy and paste content from one page to another and from one notebook to another. Learn more in the video below.

All of your notes in Penultimate automatically synchronize with your Evernote account. I often see people holding up their iPads to take pictures of slides during talks. With Penultimate you can take notes about each of those slides and save them to your Evernote account. The app could be used this way by students to take notes during lectures.

inClass – A Great Multimedia Notebook for Your Students’ iPads

January 22, 2013 by admin

Screen Shot 2013-01-21 at 11.18.17 AM inClass is a fantastic free iPad app that students can use to take and keep track of the notes they record in all of their courses. inClass allows students to organize notebooks for each of their courses. Within each notebook students can include typed notes, audio notes, video notes, and pictures. The ability to store those four types of notes makes inClass a great app for students to use in a science lab where they might want to have a little video clip of an experiment along with their own typed notes about the lab experiment.

In addition to being a notebook inClass is also a reminder service. Students can create task lists within each of their notebooks. A reminder alarm and a priority rating can be assigned to each task in a notebook.
