Math Champ Challenge – Math Skills Practice iPad App

August 5, 2013 by admin

Screen Shot 2013-08-05 at 6.50.31 PM Math Champ Challenge is the latest iPad app from INKids Education. Math Champ Challenge is designed for students in grades four through seven to practice their math skills in timed and un-timed challenges. All of the practice activities are aligned to Common Core Standards. When a student uses the app she selects her grade level and the category of Common Core Standards math skills that she needs to practice. Students earn virtual trophies for reaching new skill levels.

Math Champ Challenge provides a blank workspace below each math problem. Students can use this workspace as digital scrap paper before selecting the correct answer from the list of answer choices.

Math Champ Challenge currently costs $4.99. In the interest of full disclosure I will tell you that I received a promo code to try the app for free.

10monkeys – A Fun Math App for Elementary School Students’ iPads

July 9, 2013 by admin

tenmonkeys 10monkeys is an iPad app that elementary school students will enjoy using to practice their multiplication skills. The premise of the game is that students have to free the monkeys by correctly answering multiplication questions as quickly as possible. Students earn points for accuracy and speed. As students progress through the game they progress through the multiplication tables of two through ten. The last level mixes up problems from all of the previous levels. 10monkeys provides multiplication tables as references for students to use when they get stuck on a level.

10monkeys doesn’t offer anything that many other multiplication game apps offers, but it is a lot of fun to play. Give it a try, I think your students will like it.

April 18, 2013 by admin

Screen Shot 2013-04-17 at 1.17.08 PMSakura Quick Math is nice mathematics facts practice app for elementary school students. The app contains addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division problems that students try to answer as quickly as they can. Unlike similar games in Sakura Quick Math don’t use the keyboard to enter answers. Students answer the problems by drawing their solutions on the screen. This means that students need to correctly write their numbers to have them recognized by the app.

Math Champ – Send Math Challenges to Your Students’ iPads

March 31, 2013 by admin

Screen Shot 2013-03-31 at 9.18.33 AM Math Champ is a neat system of two apps working together to deliver math challenges to your students’ iPads.

The Math Champ Host app is the app that you use to create classes and select questions to use in the quizzes that your students take on their iPads. With the host app you control when quizzes become active. The host app also lets you see how students are doing on the quizzes.

The Math Champ Client app is the app that students use to take the quizzes that you are pushing out to them. Students can compete to see who will become the “math champ” in your classroom that day.

Learn more about Math Champ in the video below.

Fizzy’s Lunch Lab – A Free iPad App for Learning to Budget

March 30, 2013 by admin

Screen Shot 2013-03-30 at 7.56.34 PM Fizzy’s Lunch Lab Fresh Pick is a free iPad app from PBS Kids. The app is based on the popular PBS web series Fizzy’s Lunch Lab. The purpose of the app is to challenge students’ math and problem solving skills. The app contains eight challenges for students to try. Students can go through the challenges in any order that they like. The eight challenges for students are Buying Groceries, Grocery Mapping, Neighborhood Mapping, Pantry Hunt, Fizzy’s Invention, Customer Change, Find Freddy, and Food Matcher.

Of the eight challenges in Fizzy’s Lunch Lab Fresh Pick there are two that I think have the most potential for classroom use. Those two are Buying Groceries and Customer Change. In Buying Groceries students are given a budget and they have to choose foods that match the budget. Customer Change asks students to make correct change.

Fizzy’s Lunch Lab Fresh Pick does let students save their places in the game. Three students could use the same installation of the app because there are three slots for naming and saving your game.
