Have Students Review The Great Gatsby With an iPad Adventure

December 30, 2013 by admin

Screen Shot 2013-12-30 at 6.33.11 PMThe Great Gatsby: Classic Adventures is an iPad app that students can use to review The Great Gatsby while playing a game at the same time. As students work through the app they listen to parts of the story while seeing animations of the story. Each animation contains hidden objects that students have to find before moving to the next scene of the story. Students earn points for finding hidden objects. The points earned are used to “buy” decorations for a house.

You can try The Great Gatsby: Classic Adventures in a “lite” version for free. The full version costs $4.99. The app does allow for up to four player profiles per installation.

November 4, 2013 by admin

shakespeare Shakespeare: Filling In For Will is a fun game filled with famous quotes from Shakespeare. In this iPad app players are shown a quote that has a word or two missing from it. They then have to select the word or words that complete the quote. After filling in the quote players are shown the play, act, scene, and character connected to the quote.

As someone who never really enjoyed studying Shakespeare I didn’t think that I would enjoy using this app. I was wrong. In fact, I found myself hooked on playing it. The app is currently priced at $2.99 USD. I found a promo code for it on Feed My App which allowed me to download it for free. You can get the code in this Feed My App post.

Put Shakespeare on Your iPad

December 19, 2012 by admin

Screen Shot 2012-12-19 at 5.16.21 PM Whether we loved it or we hated it, reading Shakespeare was something that most of us had to do in school. Today’s students read Shakespeare’s works too.  When we read Shakespeare we had to carry a physical book around. Today’s students can read Shakespeare’s works on their iPads through Shakespeare by Readdle which puts Shakespeare’s famous and lesser-known works on their iPads.

Shakespeare by Readdle includes all of Shakespeare’s published works. The app includes a search function to find specific phrases written by Shakespeare. Users can customize the app to adjust the color scheme, font style, and font size. The app also includes a scene breakdown or summary for each of the plays on the app.

The pro version of Shakespeare by Readdle ($9.99 USD) includes an integrated glossary, a random Shakespeare quote generator, a Shakespeare facts database, and Shakespeare portraits. But if just getting Shakespeare’s works onto your students’ iPads is what you want, the free version of the app is more than adequate.
