Try Grammar Pop for iPad for Grammar Lessons

September 6, 2013 by admin

Screen Shot 2013-09-05 at 10.56.34 AM Grammar Pop is a nice app from the producers of the popular Grammar Girl series. The app offers twenty-eight levels of difficulty. At each level players have to identify a part of speech and then identify the words in a sentence that match the chosen part of speech. For example, if I select “noun” I then have to identify all of the nouns in the sentences that are shown to me. Players earn points for correct answers and they lose points for incorrect answers. The “pop” part of the Grammar Pop title comes from the action of “popping” word bubbles when you correctly identify parts of speech.

Grammar Pop isn’t the fanciest app that you’ll find in the App Store, but it does offer a nice means of practicing identifying parts of speech. The app is currently priced at $1.99. That cost is reduced through Apple’s volume purchasing program.

Grammar Wonderland – A Fun Grammar Game for Your Students’ iPads

March 19, 2013 by admin

Screen Shot 2013-03-19 at 8.46.48 PM Grammar Wonderland is a pair of iPad apps from McGraw Hill. The apps are designed to help children learn to recognize nouns, proper nouns, verbs, verb agreement, adjectives, and other parts of speech. Two versions of the app are available.

Grammar Wonderland Primary is designed for K-2 students. To play the games students move their iPads to move a crab through an underwater environment to reach the nouns, verbs, and adjectives that they’re prompted to find. Students can control how quickly they move through the obstacles to find the correct word.

Grammar Wonderland Elementary is designed for students in grades three through five. The concept of the game is the same as in the primary version, but new parts of speech are added. Grammar Wonderland Elementary has students flying a plane to find words instead of moving a crab through and underwater world.

Both apps can be used my multiple students. The apps are currently free although I don’t know how long they will remain free. The regular price is $2.99.
