New Collaborative Portfolios Added to WeLearnedIt

October 23, 2014 by admin

welearnedit Back in August Adam Bellow launched a new iPad app called WeLearnedIt. Through the WeLearnedIt iPad app you and your students can create digital portfolios. This week a collaborative portfolio creation option was added to WeLearnedIt. WeLearnedIt portfolios can contain files from Google Drive, Dropbox, links from the web, images and videos captured with your iPad, and whiteboard videos created within the WeLearnedIt app. Watch the video below to see how the new portfolio option works.

The best aspects of WeLearnedIt are found in the feedback and sharing tools. Teachers can assign grades to elements of students’ digital portfolios. Grading is not limited to assigning scores. Teachers can give written feedback on each submission. Rubrics for assignments are available through the app too.  School-wide implementations (a fee-based option) of WeLearnedIt allow teachers and administrators to share assessment data.

Disclosure: I have a small advisory and equity interest in eduClipper (the parent company of WeLearnedIt).

Two iPad Apps to Help You Reduce Paper Consumption in Your Classroom

August 7, 2014 by admin

clerk-18915_640 I don’t know any teacher that doesn’t want to reduce the number of papers he or she has to collect and organize. These two apps will help you do just that.

Three Ring is a free service for digitizing and organizing your students’ physical work. With the free app installed on your iPad or iPhone you can take a picture of a student’s written assignment and upload it to your Three Ring account. In your Three Ring account you can add notes about the assignment for yourself, the student, and the student’s parents to see. You can create folders for each student in each of your classes.

Hello Sign is a service that allows you to digitally sign documents. Hello Sign can be used on your computer, on your iPhone, and on your iPad. On your iPhone or iPad you can use Hello Sign by selecting a document or by taking a picture of a document. I have demonstrated the app to many people over the last year and everyone has been impressed by how easy it is to use. I just open the app, log into my Hello Sign account, and snap a picture of a document. After the picture was captured I have the option to apply a stored signature or sign the document using my finger on my iPad screen.

Create Whiteboard Recordings on the Updated eduClipper iPad App

March 14, 2014 by admin

Screen Shot 2014-03-13 at 9.21.48 PM Cross-posted from my other blog, Free Technology for Teachers.

The popular digital portfolio and bookmarking service eduClipper has released an updated iPad appthat offers four awesome new features. The most notable of these features is whiteboard recording. This new feature allows you to create explanatory videos in a Khan Academy style or to narrate and annotate an item from your eduClipper library. Complementing the whiteboard recording feature is a new option to download your eduClips to your iPad or to Airdrop them to a computer.

The other new eduClipper iPad app features are updated annotation tools and a new notification center. The annotation tools now include options for changing the thickness of your lines, new line and font colors, and new font style choices. The new notification center resembles that of Google+ in that you’re able to go back and view all notifications on each of your eduClips.

Disclosure: I am an advisor to eduClipper with a very small equity stake in the company.

Give Students Video Feedback With the Updated eduClipper App

January 28, 2014 by admin

Screen Shot 2014-01-28 at 11.51.43 AM A new version of the eduClipper iPad app was released this week. My favorite feature of the latest version of the app is the option to give your students audio and video feedback. Written feedback is still an option too.

The new version of the eduClipper iPad app brings more of the features of the eduClipper website to your iPad. Your students can now use the iPad app to create presentation portfolios. Just as you can distribute assignments to students through the eduClipper website you can now do the same with the iPad app.

The eduClipper app allows students to create portfolios of things they’ve found online as well as with content they’ve created themselves. Students can import content from Google Drive and Dropbox.

I used to explain eduClipper as “Pinterest for teachers and students” but it really is more than just a bookmarking tool. It’s a service designed to give teachers a platform through which they can create portfolios of important materials and assignments while also giving students a platform for creating digital portfolios. Sign up on eduClipper then download the free iPad app to see everything that you can do with eduClipper.

Disclosure: I have a very small equity interest in eduClipper.
