Tell About This – Quickly Create Simple Digital Stories

Tell About This is a fantastic new iPad app through which students can quickly create short digital stories. The concept behind the app is simple and well-executed. When students open Tell About This they can pick from an assortment of pictures that contain a story starter. Students listen and or read the story prompt and reply by tapping the record button to record a short story about the picture that they see. The stories that students record can be saved to their iPads or emailed to their teachers.

In addition to using the existing story prompts, Tell About This allows teachers and students to create and share their own story prompts. To create a story prompt just take a picture or import a picture from your camera roll, add some text, and record the prompt.

Tell About This is available in a free version and a paid version ($2.99). The free version of the app limits students to one story and a small collection of story prompts. The paid version of the app allows you access more story prompts, offers unlimited student profiles on the app (no email required), and unlimited story creations.

Shadow Puppet – A Nice iPad App for Telling Stories

To get started just select a set of pictures from your iPad’s camera roll or take a collection of new pictures with your iPad’s camera. Next arrange your pictures into sequence. After putting your pictures into order you simply tap the record button and talk about each picture for as long as you like. While you are talking you can zoom-in and or re-center your pictures to call attention to an important aspect of your pictures.

To share your Shadow Puppet creations you do have to have an email account (the Gmail+1 trick is a good work around for this if you have kids under 13). Your Shadow Puppet creations can be emailed to others and or shared on Twitter and Facebook. To get the embed code for a Shadow Puppet presentation you have to open the email and view the presentation online.

Avokiddo Emotions – Kids Create Puppets to Identify Feelings

Each animal can be decorated with fun costume pieces. The animal’s face reacts as children add things like funny glasses, snorkels, musical instruments, and pieces of fruit. Children pull a handle on the app to shuffle and get more decorations to work with.
