Country Mouse and City Mouse – Interactive iPad Story

January 12, 2017 by admin

McGraw Hill has put the classic Country Mouse and City Mouse into an interactive format for iPads. The Country Mouse and City Mouse iPad app gives students the option of having the story read to them or to read the story to themselves. Each page in the story includes a simple animation. Students can make the mice in the story move around by touching them on their iPads.

This isn’t a novel app by any means, but it is a nice app if you’re looking to add some children’s stories to your students’ iPads.

Kindoma Storytime – Kids and Grandparents Read Stories Together Online

May 16, 2013 by admin

Screen Shot 2013-05-13 at 11.38.46 AM Kindoma Storytime is a free iPad app that I can definitely see myself using with my nieces who live 1,000 miles away from me. Kindoma Storytime allows me to read stories my nieces through our iPads. Here’s how it works; after I create a free account I can invite my family members to connect with me through the app (they will have to have it on their iPads too). Once we’re connected the app is a bit Skype-like as we can video call each other. When we’re connected we can pick a book from the library of free books. As I read my nieces will see the same page that I’m on and will see the pages turn when I turn them. Of course, when my nieces get older they can use the app to read to me too.

Even Monsters Get Sick – A Great Interactive Story for Your Child’s iPad

February 26, 2013 by admin

Screen Shot 2013-02-26 at 11.33.00 AM Even Monsters Get Sick is a cute children’s story that is available in an interactive format for your child’s iPad. The story starts with a child named Harry trading some stickers and gum to his friend Mona for a pet monster. To move the story along your child has to drag the stickers and gum into place to complete the trade. From there children read and or have read to them the story of Harry taking the friendly monster home with him. The monster gets sick and Harry helps him get better. Throughout the story there are interactive elements for children to manipulate. For example, children can help Harry and the monster navigate their way home, make the monster sneeze, and play music on a record player (it occurs to me that you might have to explain to your children what a record player is).

Students can read the story on their own or have the story read to them. If students choose “read on my own” at the beginning it is easy to switch modes. To switch to having the story read to them students simply need to tap the words that they see.

Even Monsters Get Sick is currently a free app.

The Three Little Pigs Come to Life In This App

December 8, 2012 by admin

Most of us are familiar with the story of the Three Little Pigs. Three Little Piggies is an interactive iPad version of the famous fairy tale. Three Little Piggies offers three ways to enjoy the story. You can have it read to you in auto-play mode, you can read it at your own pace, or you can read along with the narrator (your choice of male or female voice). In the read along mode each word is highlighted as it is read by the narrator.

The best part of Three Little Piggies is the interactive elements built into the story. Shake your iPad and the piggies move. You can also touch the piggies to make them move. But the most fun element is the option to blow into the microphone to play the role of the wolf blowing down a house.

Three Little Piggies is currently a free app, but it’s labeled as “free for a limited time” so grab it while it’s still free.
