My Incredible Body Teaches Kids How the Human Body Works

July 7, 2014 by admin

Screen Shot 2014-07-07 at 7.11.34 PM My Incredible Body is an iPad app (currently free) designed to help students learn how the human body works. The app features eight sections. Those sections are circulation, muscles, senses (vision, smell, hearing, touch), kidneys & urine, skeleton, respiration, digestion, and brain & nerves. Each section of the app contains short animated videos that explain the functions of each system and how it works.

Students can work through My Incredible Body in any order they choose. The content of the videos that I watched in My Incredible Body are appropriate for middle school students, but would be too basic for high school students.

The Human Body – An Anatomy App for Kids

September 23, 2013 by admin

Screen Shot 2013-09-23 at 8.29.56 AM The Human Body by Tinybop is an iPad app designed to help elementary and middle school students learn human anatomy. The app features interactive diagrams of the major systems of the human body. A few of the things that students can see on the app are how lungs breathe, the heart beats, and the ears hear. One of the features that I liked is that through the app students will also see how the feeling of a touch of the hand is received in the brain. Students can turn layers and labels on and off throughout the app.

Tinybop offers a free PDF handbook to go along with The Human Body app. The handbook provides more information about the things featured in the app as well as activity and discussion prompts for teachers.

The Human Body App provides an option for parents to create accounts to monitor how their children use the app. Parents can authorize an in-app purchase to add kidneys, bladders and genitals to the app (by default that information is not enabled).

Essential Skeleton – An Excellent iPad App for Students

April 7, 2013 by admin

Screen Shot 2013-04-07 at 7.50.45 PM Essential Skeleton is a free iPad app that students studying the human skeletal system should download. The app puts a 3D skeleton on your students’ iPads. Students can zoom-in, zoom-out, and rotate the skeleton 360 degrees. When students zoom-in and tap on a bone they will see its name in English and Latin, have the option to hear an audio pronunciation of the bone’s name, learn about the connected bones, and write their own notes about the highlighted bone.

Essential Skeleton is free to download and use. The developers offer a number of related apps that you may want to try. iMuscle might make a good companion to Essential Skeleton.
