Little Story Creator – A Free App for Creating Multimedia Stories

May 27, 2015 by admin

Screen Shot 2015-05-27 at 3.33.36 PM Little Story Creator (not to be confused with the similar sounding Little Story Maker) is a free iPad app that students can use to create multimedia stories on their iPads. The app was designed with students in mind and is therefore rather easy to use. On the app students can create multiple page stories. On each page of their stories students can add images and videos, type text, draw, and apply digital stickers. Students can also record audio on each page to narrate their stories.

The stories that students create on Little Story Creator are automatically saved on their iPads. Students do not have to register on the app in order to use it or save their work. To share work students must have a parent or teacher log-in and share the story.

Ignite Teaching – Students Collaborating on Multimedia Projects

April 16, 2015 by admin

ignite teaching Ignite Teaching is a free iPad app that students can use to collaborate on the development of multimedia projects. Through Ignite Teaching teachers can create project titles that they share with students through an invitation code. Students then join the project and build slides that include pictures, text, and video. Students can work on their contributions to the project at their own pace. When they are finished working on the project, students submit their work and their teacher can see it in his or her account.

Ignite Teaching allows teachers to create multiple projects and have multiple projects running at the same time. This means that teachers could create small group projects instead of whole class projects to complete in Ignite Teaching. It is also possible to have students work on independent projects in Ignite Teaching.

Ignite Teaching also offers a web-based version of their service. I tried the web-based version and found it rather glitchy compared to the iPad version.

Try Book Creator for iPad for Free – Enter to Win the Full Version for Free

April 30, 2014 by admin

Screen Shot 2013-08-15 at 8.37.01 PM Book Creator for iPad is my favorite iPad app for creating narrated multimedia books on my iPad. So when the developers approached me with ten promo codes to give away, I said yes. Details on how to get a promo code are at the bottom of this post.

Book Creator allows anyone to create their own books using images, text, videos, and audio recordings. You can arrange your book in three different formats; portrait, square, or landscape. Each page in your book can include pictures and videos from your iPad’s camera roll and or from your iTunes library. In addition to the pictures and videos you can include as much as text as you can fit on each page. In fact, if you just want to have text on a page you can do that. If you would like to narrate your book you can tap the record button to add your voice to each page of your book. Every page in your book can have a custom color scheme.

Book Creator allows you to export your books to ePub 3.0 format. The exported file can be opened an read in the Chrome web browser using the free Readium browser extension. This is a great option as it allows a parent who doesn’t have an iPad at home to view his or her child’s work at home.

Book Creator costs $4.99 (less with volume purchasing), but you can now try it and create one entire book for free. If you’re trying to decide if Book Creator is worth purchasing, try the free version first.

To enter to win a promo code to get the full version of Book Creator for free, leave a comment on this post. In your comment include a brief mention of how you might use the app. Leave a comment by Saturday at midnight Eastern Time. Ten comments will be randomly chosen to win. (Comments may not appear immediately due to moderation. You do have to comment through Disqus to enter).
